The Drouet Sisters & a Savannah Wedding Story
Wedding weekend film capturing intimate moments from the Drouet–Plowman Savannah wedding at St. John’s Church and the Green-Meldrim House.
There are some families who make elegance feel effortless, The Drouet–Plowman wedding weekend in Savannah, Georgia carried that same sense of warmth, history, and intentionality into every moment of the celebration. Not because of extravagance, but because of the way they love one another. This family carried that kind of grace into every corner of this wedding weekend.
By the end of the experience, we were no longer operating within the formalities of planner and client. We were texting the mother of the bride by first name, laughing with sisters in hallways, and lingering at brunches longer than necessary because nobody was quite ready for the weekend to end. It is rare to meet a family so warm, so welcoming, and so genuinely happy to be together. The Drouet and Plowman families were exactly that.
A Meaningful Savannah Wedding Rooted in Family and Tradition
For Margaret and Ryan’s early March wedding, the vision from the very beginning was clear. They wanted a wedding that felt rooted in history and family. Something slower, calmer, more meaningful. As a military couple with deep ties to Savannah and to their church community, they knew they wanted the weekend to feel intimate rather than performative. Savannah, with all of its layered history and quiet beauty, became the natural backdrop for the story they were trying to tell.
Elegant Wedding Invitations Inspired by Savannah History
The invitation suite said everything before a single guest arrived. Cream cotton paper, a hand-drawn rendering of the Green-Meldrim House, a copper wax seal. This is what we mean when we say details tell a story. Before Margaret ever walked down the aisle, her guests already understood what kind of day this was going to be.
Getting Ready at the Historic Green-Meldrim House in Savannah
The weekend began with getting ready inside the Green Meldrim House itself, one of Savannah’s most breathtaking historic homes. There is something about a bride getting ready in a historic property that changes the energy entirely. Tall windows filtering morning light, antique mirrors catching movement, sisters moving in and out of rooms helping one another with jewelry, shoes, steaming dresses, fixing curls. The entire house felt alive. Historic Savannah homes like the Green-Meldrim House create a natural atmosphere that allows weddings to feel timeless, layered, and deeply connected to place
A Bridal Suite Filled with Sisters, Laughter, and Family Connection
And there were sisters everywhere.
Margaret is one of five daughters, and that dynamic shaped the entire atmosphere of the day in the loveliest possible way. The bridal suite was full of laughter, opinions, storytelling, and the kind of closeness that can only come from growing up together. You could feel the affection between them constantly. It softened everything. At Port Town Collective, we often find that the most meaningful weddings are the ones centered not around spectacle, but around connection.
There was also an especially emotional layer to the planning process itself. During a stretch of dress appointments, when Margaret’s husband, mother, and sisters could not attend with her, PTC stepped in and went alongside her ourselves. We know how deeply her mother wished she could have been there for those moments, which made it feel even more important that Margaret never experienced them alone.
Emotional Father-Daughter Moments Before the Ceremony
As the morning unfolded, one of the most touching moments came quietly. Margaret’s father, dressed in full military uniform, stood patiently while she adjusted his collar before the ceremony. One small gesture between the two of them, but one that seemed to hold the weight of a lifetime. Later, when he saw her fully dressed as a bride for the first time, the reaction brought nearly everyone around them to tears. Even now, writing about it, we still get emotional thinking back on that moment..
A Classic Church Ceremony at St. John’s Church in Savannah
The ceremony itself took place at the beautiful St. John's Church, where the couple are parishioners. The connection between church and family made the entire day feel deeply personal from beginning to end. St. John’s is one of those rare spaces that genuinely feels sacred the moment you step inside. Dark wooden pews, stained glass windows throwing soft color across the sanctuary, the echo of music filling the room. Margaret’s father walked her down the aisle in full military dress uniform while simple white ribbon and cascading Southern greenery lined the pews.
Personalized Wedding Details That Reflected the Couple
And then there were the Army boots…
Margaret was absolutely determined to wear them, and honestly, we adored her for it. It felt entirely authentic to who she is. Elegant and refined, yes, but also proud, practical, strong, and grounded in the life she and Ryan have built together. Those are always the details that guests remember most because they reveal the personality behind the wedding itself.
An Intimate Savannah Wedding Reception at the Green-Meldrim House
As Savannah wedding planners, we often find that intimate guest counts allow for more thoughtful design, layered storytelling, and meaningful guest experience. Smaller weddings create space for details to breathe and for guests to feel truly connected to the celebration itself. Because the couple are parishioners at St. John’s, the family was able to host their seated dinner reception back at the Green Meldrim House afterward, and it could not have been more beautiful.
A single long table stretched through the candlelit space surrounded by family and close friends. We incorporated the family’s antique gold and ivory china pattern into the tabletop design alongside pieces from PTC’s existing rental collection, creating a layered tablescape that felt deeply personal to the family rather than simply decorative. Silver candelabras, vintage linens, heirloom tableware, soft greenery, pink camellias tucked throughout. Incorporating heirloom pieces alongside custom event design is one of our favorite ways to create weddings that feel personal rather than overly manufactured.
This is something we believe strongly at Port Town Collective. Smaller weddings do not need to sacrifice beauty, intention, or artistry. In many ways, intimate weddings create the opportunity for even more meaningful guest experiences because every detail has room to breathe.
A Candlelit Wedding Weekend Guests Will Never Forget
As evening settled in, the Green Meldrim House transformed completely. Candlelight flickered through every room, guests lingered over dinner and conversation, and the entire house seemed to glow from within. Savannah has a remarkable way of slowing people down, and this wedding weekend embraced that feeling completely. It felt less like an event venue and more like being welcomed into a grand family home for one unforgettable evening.
A Sweet Farewell Brunch to End the Wedding Weekend
And then, somehow, the weekend became even sweeter.
The Sunday following the wedding happened to be the first birthday of the family’s daughter, Mable Ann. Rather than rushing away after the festivities, the family invited PTC back to host a relaxed birthday brunch as a farewell gathering for everyone who had spent the weekend together.
Watching this family slow down and simply enjoy one another after such an emotional few days was incredibly special. Parents passing babies around the room, sisters laughing over coffee, friends retelling stories from the night before, everyone lingering because nobody wanted the weekend to end.
Some weddings are remembered because they were beautiful. This one will be remembered because it felt deeply loved from beginning to end.
