Building a World for Children to Explore-Not Just a Party!
Walking Into Candyland for Real
Walking into Sweet Pete’s Candy Shop in Jacksonville, Florida did not feel like arriving at a birthday party. It felt like stepping directly into a game of Candyland, and honestly, that was exactly the point.
As a Southeast event planning and design firm, Port Town Collective specializes in immersive celebrations that blend thoughtful design with interactive guest experience.
For this sixth birthday celebration, we leaned all the way in. Color everywhere. Candy everywhere. Music, balloons, oversized installations, and just enough chaos to make it feel magical in the way only children’s parties can.
The goal was never simply to decorate a room. We wanted the children to feel like they had stepped inside another world entirely. One they could actually touch, run through, interact with, and remember long after the sugar rush wore off.
And judging by the absolute mayhem at the life-sized Candyland board, we would say mission accomplished.
The Details (a.k.a. where things get good)
From the very beginning, everything spoke the same visual language. Soft pinks, layered purples, candy-coated color palettes, oversized balloons, immersive installations, and playful details tucked into nearly every corner of the space.
The custom invitation suite set the tone early. At Port Town Collective, we believe children’s birthday parties deserve the same level of intentionality and storytelling as any wedding or luxury event! By the time guests arrived, they already understood this was not going to be the standard pizza-and-sheet-cake birthday party situation.
The tables became part dessert, part design installation, covered in candy and playful textures that blurred the line between décor and experience. And then there was the cake.
Not just a cake. A full-blown centerpiece moment.
The kind of cake that makes children physically stop what they are doing and gather around it like it is a celebrity sighting. Safe to say, it more than earned its moment.
Where the Party Came to Life
This was never intended to be one of those children’s parties where everything looks beautiful but nobody is allowed to touch anything.
Quite the opposite.
One of the things we loved most about working with Sweet Pete’s Candy Shop was how naturally interactive the venue already is for children. Interactive entertainment remains one of our favorite ways to create meaningful experiences for children because it gives them something to remember beyond the décor itself.
The kids were completely locked in from start to finish, fully immersed in the experience, proudly creating candy of their own and leaving just sticky enough to prove they had a good time.
We are always looking for ways to incorporate experiences modern children do not necessarily expect anymore. Things that feel playful, nostalgic, and genuinely interactive instead of overly digital or passive.
So alongside the candy-making, we incorporated face painters, caricature artists that transformed the children into illustrated versions of themselves, music, dancing, limbo, and interactive moments layered throughout the event so there was always something happening around the next corner.
Basically, if it could be experienced, touched, danced with, laughed at, or taken home, we wanted it there.
Meanwhile, Logan Thomas kept the energy exactly where it needed to be: high, happy, and just chaotic enough to feel like a real kids party.
The candy kept everyone properly sugared up, and swag bags from The Magical World of Toys made sure nobody left empty-handed or grumpy.
A Small Detail That Actually Made a Big Difference
From the parents’ perspective, one of the best parts of the day was how easy everything felt.
Instead of the usual last-minute scramble for gifts, duplicate toys, forgotten wrapping paper, and confusion at the party itself, we used a Birthday Box registry through The Magical World of Toys.
Parents selected gifts online ahead of time, everything was wrapped and organized in advance, and the Port Town Collective team coordinated delivery directly to the event.
Simple. Organized. Stress-free.
No duplicate gifts. No awkward guessing games. No giant pile of unwrapped boxes creating chaos halfway through the party.
We love a system.
And honestly, making events feel effortless for parents is every bit as important to us as creating magic for children.
The Takeaway
Kid parties are not about having more.
They are about feeling something.
Running around with sticky hands. Seeing something oversized and deciding it is the coolest thing you have ever seen in your entire life. Learning how candy is made. Dancing to music that feels way too loud. Winning limbo like your reputation depends on it. Carrying home a caricature portrait that makes you laugh every time you look at it.
That is the stuff children actually remember.
At Port Town Collective, we do not just decorate spaces. We build worlds people get to step inside.
And if cotton candy is involved, even better.
